When evaluating a highly complex infinite series, calculating explicit partial sums directly is often an incredibly challenging or impossible task. Instead of evaluating the series in isolation, we look at its long-term behavior at infinity and model it against simpler, known benchmark series. This technique typically uses positive-term benchmarks whose convergence properties are already fully established, such as geometric series or $p$-series.

To do this, engineers rely on two comparison frameworks:
